At Procivis, we've developed distinct advantages that make our solutions stand out in the marketplace. These advantages deliver tangible benefits and address the real challenges organizations face with digital identity. Over the next several weeks, we'll explore the key advantages that set Procivis One apart in a article series. It’s the unique combination of properties that sets Procivis One apart in the market:
Flexibility and Interoperability | Enterprise Ready | End-to-End | Privacy by Design | Scalable Performance | Deployment Freedom
Your digital identity solution needs to be enterprise-ready. Here’s what that really means.
In this insight, we discover why “Enterprise ready” is so important when you decide on a digital identity solution. It’s not just about the quality of Procivis One’s technology. It’s about requirements from enterprises like reliability, trust, security, financial stability, long-term strategy, long-term support, and continuous development.
Reliability, Trust, Security, Stability - Procivis & Orell Füssli: We are here to stay
Providing true enterprise-ready technology goes beyond technology. Procivis is fully owned by the Orell Füssli Group, an internationally listed company headquartered in Switzerland with over 500 years of history and more than a century of experience in security printing of banknotes and identity documents. When Orell Füssli invests, it’s based on a long-term vision, not short-term profit. And in this case, long-term means decades, not just years.
No surprises. No uncertainty. Procivis is an integral part of Orell Füssli’s digital trust services strategy. Our customers can trust that ownership stays stable and no unexpected VC takes over. For authorities handling critical and sensitive digital infrastructure, a reliable, trusted, and long-term partner is crucial. And that’s exactly what Procivis and Orell Füssli stand for with its secure, Swiss-quality products.
Support – when you need help, we’re here. Always.
Implementing a nationwide eID scheme with millions of users and hundreds of relying parties requires reliable support at all levels. Since we built Procivis One from the ground up, we know our code inside out. Unlike other frameworks, where support depends on third parties managing externally developed code, our in-house expertise ensures faster, more secure, and risk-free support.
We have a dedicated support team, we can provide any SLA you need. 24/7 third-level support, no problem. When it comes to critical infrastructure, you need a partner who’s always there—not just during business hours.
ISO Certification, Security Audits, and SBOM – Ensuring Compliance and Transparency
At Procivis, we take transparency, documentation and compliance seriously. That’s why we are ISO-certified, have extensive documentation, perform external security audits, and provide a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) for every release.
ISO certification and documentation needs no explanation. A SBOM is not that common, so why is SBOM important?
- It shows exactly where the software components come from, including third-party libraries.
- It ensures compliance with regulatory requirements set by your authority, regulation or company.
- It ensures software integrity and supports risk management
- It enhances security and vulnerability management by providing full visibility into the software stack.
- It improves the efficiency in software development and maintenance
For a nationwide eID system, where trust, security, and compliance are critical, an SBOM is not just a best practice—it’s a necessity to ensure long-term sustainability and security. With Procivis, you don’t just get technology—you get a well-documented, auditable, and compliant technology that meets the highest standards.
Continuous development : adapting to evolving standards and requirements
Implementation is just the beginning — development never stops. You’ll have new feature requests, standards will evolve, infrastructure and pre-systems will change, and bugs will surface. On the one hand, Procivis One will continue to support all eIDAS 2.0 requirements and incorporate necessary standard updates. At the same time, we offer custom development services to meet your specific needs—ensuring that your custom solutions remain compatible with all future versions of Procivis One. With us, you get a future-proof, adaptable, and continuously maintained digital identity solution.
Enterprise-grade architecture: scalable, reliable, and future-proof
From the start, we built our architecture to be enterprise grade. We intentionally separated the ‘Procivis One Core’ from our ‘backend-for-frontend’ (BFF)—yes, we know, BFF is not the best name.
Simply put:
- The core (Rust-based) handles all identity-critical features like signatures, credential formats, trust management, and DIDs.
- The BFF (Java-based) is designed for management and customization.
The benefit? You don’t have to worry about the core, but you can. If you have experienced Java developers, you can build your own modules, dashboards, connectors, or business logic—without interfering with the core. Since all communication happens via APIs, your custom developments remain decoupled from core updates, ensuring long-term flexibility and seamless integration.
What sets us apart as well: we use the same code base in our server components – unlike other provider - for issuing and verification and in our mobile apps. This ensures a seamless and efficient development and avoids having three different development teams (e.g., backend, Android, iPhone).
